I present the Kingdom of Muda

Got everything zipped up here for you bros
lets make some music

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

Regarding Muda Kingdom,

How do we want to arrange it? I mean, technically it could be played with foppy himself on piano, or he could play the melody and I could play the bass, or foppy could play the bass line with me and clari doing the melody. What do you bros think?

update again

news 25 sept

-i'm very busy
-"wind's nocturne" arrangement is 25% complete and features a soft brass, duet piano (for now) and clarinet

(copied from older post)

better known to the internet public as shii's song, the original was from a lunar game and performed by jenny stigile

the arrangement in plan right now is:

me- piano
razgriz- euph or ein- trombone (it will work with either, but euph is more easier to blend in)
clarinetbro- clarinet

if i feel like it, i might put in some extra instrumentation but this is it for now

this is being done inbetween school work so don't expect it to be done right out quick but i do have plenty of the melody line done in a basic style, though i do want to get the pitchbends in and fine-tune the timing

we do still want a trumpeteer to play the last part of the fire emblem song
we're throwing away national park for now
i still need to record the piano part for what the forest gump taught us

since we lost a few members due to, uh, pretty much abandonment, um...yeah. hopefully this makes it a little easier to finetune the quality of the recordings

parting is such sweet skaaro

unfortunately we lost two soldiers in battle recently

jluvial and iamevn got killed in action while trying to defuse an onion ring bomb

this means they will not be around anymore to help us with musical performances

though they were exterrrrminated on the battlefield they will be in our hearts forever

>implying they are really in our hearts

what the forest taught me

razgriz, i need sheet music for piano part, the mediafire expired

otherwise, i will just end up making my own stuff

Time to go big or go home

Its the end of the summer, months of time, but we're still hung up on old projects. We're never gonna get anywhere if we don't finish what we start. I believe actions speak louder than words, and if you can't have your recordings in by the month's end you're saying you wanna get kicked. And thats ok of course, we'll be happy to oblige. A couple guys and I were talking on irc, and for us vidya music is serious business. If we don't take this seriously, we're not gonna get anywhere, you know? Who wants to sit idly by for months doing nothing? So if you're serious, get the tracks in and lets have an amazing time all in the love of vidya music. But if its not your thing, we won't hold it against you. Just please find someone else's time to waste, will ya?
Thanks bros

p.s. please please please don't make the mistake of assuming this is passively directed at any individual. If i were to not have my stuff in by months end i'd want to get kicked too. Deadlines are important for everyone, its the only way to make it happen, amirite?

Step 1: Replace everyone in band with Fabio
Step 2: ????
Step 3: Profit

On a more serious note we still need recordings from some people, and our trumpet players are MIA. Also we need someone to pick up the violin part from Nation Park because Grog quit :(

Tuesday, July 19, 2011

bye (violin)

It was a fun ride, but I can't keep up anymore, so I quit.
And no, I will not be playing the pokemon song.

Friday, July 15, 2011

Come on guys.

Come on. Seriously. Finish your recordings so we can move on to new songs.

Tuesday, July 5, 2011

Y'all be postin in an update thread.

Hey guys. I just wanted to make a list of what parts still need to be recorded for what songs. Just as a friendly reminder I'm not trying to be a dick. Also, guys I miss you in the irc : (

Fire Emblem:

National Park:

Side Songs:
What the Forest Taught Me - Piano
PokeCenter - Trumpet *

Hot stuff coming through

We did a lot of recordings today! I hope they please! (Note the volume levels are high on all the songs, I thought this would be helpful for editing)

Side Songs
Pokemon Center
Song of Storms

National Park

I hope these are all the right speed this time, and we will be willing to redo anything if need be!

New guys and New Songs

Finally, trumpets! and enthusiastic ones at that.

We've already got 2 new side songs on the way, Both the Song of Storms from Zelda and the Pokemon Center. The more vidya music the better, amirite? If anyone has any feasible ideas/dream songs, let us know, lets try to play as much as we can
People actually FINISH recordings. I'm not naming any names, and i realize you guys actually have a life unlike myself, but still, lets try to finish what we start, you know?

Pokemon National Park's Violin part.

I've been thinking these past few days about the violin part while I've been practicing against it.

1. Why isn't this part played by some woodwind? Fast notes like this are probably much easier on a woodwind that doesn't have to worry about bowing.

2. Why does it have five flats? I know it can be composed better so that it isn't such a pain in the butt to finger.
3. The ending needs to be fixed. It doesn't fit.

fire emblem sax part done

screw my ethics teacher in the goat ass (she really is a goat and an ass at the same time)

also, here is my sax part, it's not perfect, but which part of the recording is

(i admit that i jluvial'd it up and did only a couple takes and copy-pasta'd the rest)

i do not think it is synchronized in the way that you can just import it into your project workspace (it's synchronized to the midi delay for timing tests instead), as in you have to synchronize it manually, but at least it's only asking you to shift the entire track, not segments of it

furtheremore, here is a harp+piano file with a boost in volume so it is more audible, otherwise, it is pretty much the same recording as before

no trumpet yet but if you can find someone else in the meantime while i figure it out then i'm not worried about it

What do you think?

So I was listening to the 100bpm midi for National Park, and I was really wondering why it sounded so different (and better) from what we recorded. Timing issues aside, I concluded that in the midi the cello used a bow and didn't staccato. I know that in our version it was written that both the violin and the cello were originally supposed to staccato, and then the violin was changed to bow since it was easier. What I am thinking is that maybe the cello should bow too. It gives a nice solid base foundation in harmony for the other instruments to play off of. I dunno, to me the staccato just sounds kinda hollow. Is it easier to bow the cello part Jluvial? Does anyone else agree with me? Either both stringed instruments should bow or staccato, not have opposites. It just clashes I think.

The midi just sounds so warm and nice with those bowed cello notes. Just saying :3
What do I know though, I play a penis instrument lol.

Also included: A picture of Ein during happier times. Enjoy.

Dat Progress

Good news everyone! Fire Emblem is sounding better than ever. I let my mom listen to it and she just assumed it was me playing over some professional group or something. Special props from my mom to skull, clari and jlu, she loved the violin and clarinet and my mom didn't even know contra-bass existed, she was all like, "why does that tuba sound so different?" Haha, and all thats left is Ein's run and we need a pic related, but overall I think its really, really good guys.

Onto the next performance, something I've been waiting to do for a while: National Park. Tempo on this one is gonna be 100BPM, so set those metronomes and play away. Yes, its gotta be a complete fresh recording, but it'll sound great, just look how fire emblem turned out, trust me. How do we feel about a recording deadline? I think at the LATEST it should be July 5th, which also happens to be my birthday. That should give enough time for our members who actually happen to have a life.

Instrumentation is
  • Clarinet (obviously clari)
  • Flute (his GF.....?)
  • Euphonium (myself)
  • Violin (grog or skull, whichever of you wants to play pretty much)
  • Drum set ( main man jlu, i want that perc track early, makes my editing job so fresh and so clean)

There was also a little talk on the irc about us maybe getting a youtube, I still think its a little early, but when/if we do I'm ok with managing it. I already have a personal youtube myself that I've been experimenting with, but for now i just use a static image. It mite b cool if we all recorded video of ourselves with guy fawkes masks one day, just saiyan. But that's for another time.

Vote and Die

OK well to avoid stagnation, we are going to vote on the next song. There really isn't any better way to do the voting, so for fucksakes don't vote more than once.

We picked three of the more doable options. If anyone comes up with any better song ideas, let us know ASAP.

UPDATE - The winner was a redo of National Park!

What the Forest Taught Me

Omicron, how would you like to do the Secret of Mana song with me?

and Clari, i turned the clarinet up, hope you like it

Fire Emblem Update

I wouldn't forget about you guys, this is too much fun. Everything but the obvious trumpet part and the Alto Sax, if Clari could rerecord I'd appriciate it, and Ein's run.

Also I happened to thoroughly enjoy e3 this year, but eh, opinions

Saturday, June 11, 2011

e3 sucked

hey razgriz how about an update

and not about the e3

Those of you with loads of free time. . .

My bud has been wanting to play Hikari "Simple and Clean", from Kingdom Hearts in an ensemble for a few years. I was thinking maybe some of y'all could help us out.
He has a score for a big band, but I'd probably reduce it since we don't have all the instruments needed.
This isn't really related to the vmusic troupe or anything, just kind of another side project.
If any of you guys are interested let me know, and I'll send you some sheet music.
Thanks guys!

-SkullKid :3

Friday, June 10, 2011

My 2 Cents.

So far we've had a few song suggestions. We've had suggestions to play:

-Clanker's Cavern (Banjo and Kazooie)
-Redo Traverse Town (but with more instrumentation)
-Ein suggested Battle on Requiem (Yggdra Union)
-Skullkid suggested The Promised Land (Advent Children)
Plus we've had a whole bunch of suggestions on the irc but nothing has panned out yet.

I want to suggest Casino Night Zone from Sonic 2 but as an improv jazz piece. The way it would work (this would take a bit of creative arranging) would be that the entire band plays the main theme of the song as an intro, then there would be a section for improvisation by whoever wants to, followed by the entire band playing again at the end. Piano, drums, and bass would play during the improv just basically comping (the sheet music would indicate the chord progression). This would probably just involve the piano playing specific chords and the improver would play above them.

Either that or we do Hilltop Zone. A lot of the sonic 2 and 3 songs have piano. Plus dat wailing sax.

Just a couple of suggestions on my part. We are still open to more suggestions by everyone (cough cough Raz). Remember we ideally want a song that involves as many instruments as possible and hopefully piano.

Thursday, June 9, 2011

My suggestion

Clari asked me to place what I thought we should play next so here it is
I feel kinda bad though since there's not much piano involved; from what I can tell its mainly Trumpet and Violin. At least its not a slow song this time!
expecting a perfectly grammatical post, clarri? TOO BAD ,WALUIGI TIME...........

The Week in Review

Ok, let's get back on track here. A lot has happened this week, mainly:

1) Everyone has done really well in recording and meeting the deadline for Fire Emblem, and Raz is in the process of editing it. All we need now is a trumpet part and a small part of Ein's that he still has to record.

2) Serperior got his ass fired because he did not meet the deadline for Fire Emblem (See: Penis Recorder).

3) Since we have finished our main song, it is time to move on to a new one! Suggestions? A few people have suggested that since we now have a bigger more experienced band we should try Clanker's Cavern finally. Thoughts?

- We are still planning on doing side songs while we record the main song. Raz has made a note about that in a post below. Stay tuned for further updates and possible sheet music!
- We need a trumpet player now since we dumped Serperior. Raz has suggested his friend might be able to record the Fire Emblem part, and Foppy has bought a trumpet to learn. Someway or another we'll get it done.

serperior confirmed for brawl

ps just kidding serperior is fired

Works in progress

First post, ok.

So far fire emblem's about half done, take a listen

and for those of you curious enough here's my standalone euph part

I've still got guile's theme and What the forest taught us written out, Guile's looking like he's gonna need:
  • Bass
  • Euph
  • Trombone
  • Violin
and I'm fairly certain what the forest taught me would be a tenor sax piece with a fairly simple piano accompaniment

if there's interest, i'll polish up the scores, and if you want to ignore practical instrumentation cause the love of vidya music burns in your soul, than i'll write it up for whoever.

Comment away bros

shut up clari

gog DAMN.............

here i'm using the bolg

the website and other comments

apologies for the holdup on setting up permissions for the vmusic-oriented website ( http://vmusic.alreadyread.net/ ) i was putting up; unfortunately, setting up the permissions requires something a little more complicated than what i expected at the time and i'm too lazy to bother learning so in the mean time just go ahead and use mediafire or whatever for all your uploads until i get that setup when i'm not busy

for recording, you don't always have to be lined up during the actual recording process, some people do several takes on one recording and cut/split/shift/paste whereever it needs to be lined up during the later stages--for example, if you have two phrases separated by large gaps of rests, just do the second phrase whenever you're ready, and if you fuck it up, just start that phrase over while still recording, edit out the mishap and adjust the timing post-recording--we're playing individually online, not together, so don't get too wrapped up in playing everything all at once

if you don't have a way to combine your separate parts or edit them (if you're still using sndrec32.exe or some basic shit) then don't worry about it, they can be adjusted by anyone of us who might have the programs to do such

TIMING ISSUES (you know who you are...!): your notes should be evened out properly and not have one eighth note shorter or longer than another eighth note WHOOPS EXCUSE ME I MEAN "QUAVER" (ps shut up)--this is excepting of course, when the directions are to play, for example, two eighth notes as a quarternote+eighth note as a tuplet set

also keep in mind that there are posts below this that you should read as well, such as the date reminder

on top of that, my alto sax is in the shop, i ordered a Bb trumpet for cheap, and i have a new bow for my violin so i'm going to be expanding my musical vocabulary by 100%

Are you a bad dude?

Deadline for Fire Emblem Approaching!

June 4th

Are you a bad enough dude to get your recording done?

harp & soul

wtf is with the big pictures in the blogposts goddamn man

anyway, here is what i recorded, a harp and piano chord version:

download harp & piano (fixed)
download a demonstration (with midi accompaniment)
in case you wondered what the piano part was in writing

if you prefer i leave out the piano then i can record it with just the harp track but i honestly don't think it'll be such a big deal as it sounds fine with it

i kinda felt like i wanted to introduce a flute somewhere to give an even more marching band style sound but maybe that can be written in later ¯\(ยบ_o)/¯

EDIT: also, if you have your own tracks to share, put them in the comments of this post because apparently it's designated as the new consolidation point for tracks

don't be late with your tracks, SERPERIOR, remember, it's due june 4th

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Seems like everyone has been busy lately. I hope recording/practicing is going well, and I just wanted to remind everyone of the deadline (If you are "lol wut" about that, read my last postIt's June 4th). Also come to irc, we miss you! :( If you can't irc, just let us know what's up via the blog.

Thursday, May 5, 2011

will be very busy with other things in life, will play the small part on fire emblem's theme (adding a left hand piano part if i can, i really wanted to add in a part for tuba but too busy) but might not play on the other two active songs but i will still be around on irc and respond occasionally when i'm free

and don't edit my post, clarinetaltobro

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

Feel free to start recording!

Updates all up in this bitch.

Hey guys, lots to update you on. First of all, everyone can start recording Fire Emblem now. The sheet music is available here. Everyone is going to record their part separately this time. Feel free to record to the midi, as our piece is at the same tempo (120). Please try to use a metronome however! We also ask for editing sake leave 2 empty bars in the beginning of the recording. Once everyone has their parts done we will put it together and if everyone played at the right speed, then the song will sound ok. Record the song as a .wav file. If you need any advice on recording/equipment/programs, feel free to ask us in the irc. Use any microphone that you wish to record, you don't need top of the line equipment to do this. We are setting a deadline of June 4/11.

Here is who is playing what part:
Clarinet - ClarinetBro
Alto Sax - ClarinetBro
Trumpet - Serperior
Trombone - Ein
Euphonium - Razgriz
Violin I - Skullkid
Violin II - Skullkid
Bass - Jluvial
Harp (keyboard) - Foppy
Percussion - We are just going to use the midi

*Omicron: Jluvial tried to fit piano into the score but it just wasn't possible. Do you play another instrument at all? Also, since you don't get a chance to play in FE, we are going to score you into the side songs for sure. Are you ok with this? Sorry bro, we tried, unless you have any ideas?

As for the side song, we had a TIE for the final vote. We've decided we will do both songs, Guile's Theme & What the Forest Taught Me. This means that both songs will be played by smaller groups of our troupe. I know Razgriz has volunteered to arrange the side song, but do you want to do both songs buddy? Does someone want to take one and Raz does the other? The instruments that we use for both songs doesn't have to include the entire band, but I ask that piano be integrated in one (or both) songs so that Omicron can play since he won't get a chance to play on the Fire Emblem song.

Tl;dr Start recording. Everyone records separately. Upload your recording, post link here.

Fire Emblem Sheet Music

Jluvial has kindly finished the score for Fire Emblem. Make sure to let us know if your range is OK or not.

Serperior you are still down with doing the trumpet part right? As for the side song, we are in the final round of voting. Secret of Mana VS Guile's Theme. The poll will be open for 3 days. If you didn't get a part for Fire Emblem, you'll get one in the side song! Razgriz has kindly volunteered to do the score for whatever wins, if that is ok with everyone? Also, a formal welcome to our new members: Serperior (Trumpet), Omicron (Piano), Razgriz (Euphonium), & Pyoro (Clarinet).

Welcome, and now that we have sheet music, practice my friends!

Weekly catch up

As far as I know:

1. Side-quest song not decided / in the process of being voted
2. Jluvial left to go to an anime convention
3. Fire Emblem is in progress of being arranged
4. Pokemon National Park is done but is still being tweaked?
5. There's many new people

This week I'm not doing any work in particular for vmusic, but I'm on IRC.
And I like this song(s) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k06VRlq2dqE

Side Song Voting and New Recruits

Ok so lots of things have been going down lately. First we need to vote on the side song. The choices are as follows (everyone got to pick one song):

Street Fighter - Guile's theme - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTYtH28esTg
Secret of Mana - What the forest taught me - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sajoxHWcr-I
Croc Soundtrack: Adventure Begins - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LuA1CmcsxIE
Legend of Zelda OoT - Bolero of fire - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIfZhcdiLQY
Final Fantasy Advent Children - Promised Land - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yL9HMKyN83Y

We are going to vote for one of these songs just like last time. The polling will open up on the blog when we agree on a time.  Also we have some new members that might be joining us. Just a reminder we always hang out in the irc (Usually after 8pm EST) - irc://irc.rizon.net/vmusic

This roster will update as the voting progresses.

Monday, April 18, 2011

Y'all need to post what's up

...because it's hard to check up on what you're all doing and all.
I know I am awesome but I haven't gained the power to read minds just yet.

Let's try to make a habit of commenting or posting at least once a week.

Here's what I'm doing related to vmusic right now:
1. Considering potential songs to play
2. lurking in IRC
3. Not practicing any specific song for vmusic right now

If you're doing nothing, leave a comment saying so.
Otherwise, post what's on your mind about vmusic.

Here are some things under consideration:
1. What side-quest song are we going to work on, and who's in it?
2. Jluvial you had better man up and talk to us instead of avoiding us.
3. What is going on with the Fire Emblem song? Is it done? Who's working on it?

Friday, April 8, 2011

I just wanna play videogames (& videogame music)

So we have gotten a lot done lately. Everything except for trombone part has been recorded for National Park. Ein hopes to have the trombone part done by the end of the week. Next to be done is the mixing of all the recordings. Since the bulk of the recording is done, we have decided to move on to the next song.

There will be two songs recorded next round, a main song and a side song. This will allow people who have already recorded their part to move on to the next song. The main song has been decided to be:

Fire Emblem 7: Main Theme

Jluvial is working to get the sheet music for this arranged. The side song has not yet been decided upon, and any suggestions in the blog comments would be appreciated. It has been suggested that we do a smaller easier song for the side song. Someone also proposed duets and trios as a possibility. The sky is the limit. Also we are looking to recruit. Anyone have any ideas? Do we need to make some /v/ threads? We definitely need more of every instrument, especially a drummer and trumpet player. People who can only read tabs need not apply.

Sunday, March 27, 2011

Due to (foreseen) circumstances the deadline has been extended a week out, so april 2 is the final date to have a decent recording available

Download the current recording with only cello, violin, and drums

-A retake from Ein (trombone)
-Clarinet and flute part
-Someone who is good with mixing and mastering and other things to make it sound polished after it's done

What was done:
I went ahead and started fooling around with the timing of notes on all three tracks
it isn't 100% on target with the metronome, but at least it's more square and should be easier to record on top of, and the violin/drums/cello should generally match in timing except in subtle areas where I didn't think it mattered.

Tuesday, March 22, 2011

Current status

To keep us up to date here on national park's status:

  • Parts transcribed, trombone part added
  • Drum part recorded
  • Bass/cello part recorded
  • Trombone part recorded
  • Modest correction on trombone's final notes for the part Bs (changing B natural -> B flat)
  • Minor fixes on drum track, computer-fixed part B endings
  • Preparing to make some edits on timing in general (thxxx sonar le)
  • Waiting on clarinet/flute/violin
  • Violin bowing method is OK
  • Possible slight subtle mastering additions by way of synth (for enhancing!)
Please keep up with the deadline because it's bad enough we've taken years to finish recording this already

    Tuesday, March 15, 2011

    Next Songs

It probably isn't wise to work on only one song at a time, considering we go in a certain order which means people that are finished do nothing. So discuss what our next song(s) shall be.

I'm guessing we should go by the order in which we voted in the tournament, but we can always have alternatives. Thoughts?

    Sunday, March 6, 2011

    So far, So good!

Just an update: both the drum part and cello part are complete. You can listen to them here. We are still aiming for our March 26th deadline, so keep at it! Also we would like to welcome back Skullkid, who helped form vmusic when we just started out. She has agreed to play the violin part for National Park. Glad to have you back!

    Tuesday, February 22, 2011

We (and when I say we, I mean foppy) have set a deadline for our parts. Everyone must be done their part on or before March 26, 2011. Of course this excludes Jluvial who should hopefully have his part done A.S.A.P. so that the rest of us can have a base part to record off of.

    Tuesday, February 15, 2011

    What are we doing?

Who is playing what first for Pokemon National Park?
Are we decided on violin and not guitar?
When are we gonna meet up online to discuss important stuff?
Also I tacked on a tabel "play2" for all the posts related to or leading up to Pokemon National Park.

    National Park Parts

Includes score, .sib, .mid, and all parts.

    Wednesday, February 2, 2011

    Tournament Style

Ok, we've decided to do this tournament style. It's single elimination, so we will vote each round for one of the two songs. As always we will vote for the songs via polls on here and discussing them on irc. The brackets look weird, but that's only because we have 10 songs, and 10 is a weird number for tournament brackets. All of the pairings were randomized.

Whatever song makes it to the end we will play. We might consider playing the runner up as well once we finish playing the winner.

Rules: Fox only, no items, final destination.

    Sunday, January 30, 2011

    Votes Are In

OK. All easy songs, but they are nice.

    1. Great Deku Tree's Last Words... (Legend Of Zelda, The: Ocarina Of Time).

Reasoning: This would sound pretty cool if we had all the strings (viola, violin and cello) do the undertone, and then foppy ein and I do the two melody parts.

    2. Valley of the Wind (Xenogears).

Reasoning: Apart from the xylophone (which foppy could synthesize on his keyboard, or we could even just not have it and it would sound ok), there is no percussion part. And there is like three woodwind parts playing the melody/harmony.

    3. Title Screen (Animal Crossing: City Folk).

Reasoning: This is easy and nice. We could just have an instrument cover the guitar part (I dunno, sax or flute). It has a nice underlying strings part, and has a couple parts playing which we can all cover. Main thing is, it's easy.
